Connie & Family

A family’s new beginning

Photo of Connie and FamilyConnie and her husband arrived in Houston three years ago in the hopes of creating a brighter future for her family. They operated a trucking company, but with the increased gas prices and declining economy, the business collapsed. They ultimately lost their home when her second child, Jake, was only 5 weeks old.

First staying with friends, then in a month to month apartment, Connie and her husband paid rent with the last dollars in their pockets. Together, the family landed at a local shelter where they were able to start getting back on their feet. A social worker quickly identified her older son Nathan’s learning delays and recommended that SEARCH’s House of Tiny Treasures could help. There, speech and play therapists worked with Nathan and he is now ready for kindergarten.

August marks the beginning of a new season of success for this family. Connie is attending nursing school and her husband has found a new vocation in the medical field. Nathan will attend kindergarten at the public school near their new home. Thanks to SEARCH, both Connie and Nathan will succeed in school and have a chance at a bright future.
